WOMEN IN PATRIARCHIAL SOCIETY

Women are struggling hard to break the shackles of norms and standards set by the patriarchal society.

They are still marching for equal rights and finding their rightful place in the world. Though modern society is opening opportunities for women in every field, they still have a long way to go, especially in the corporate world.

The challenges of women are countless. They continue to remain underrepresented at every level. This underrepresentation gets worse in senior management positions.

The salary for women is lower than the salary for men. They are underestimated. They face harassment, from verbal-visual to non-verbal or physical harassment.

During child-rearing years, the unemployment penalty for women is longer in private organisations. This means that when women take longer leaves, they have a much harder time getting rehired. Moreover, the gender pay gap makes it harder for women to hold senior-level positions.

A type of employment discrimination against women is pregnancy discrimination which occurs inoffensive comments by senior officials, clients, peers, and customers regarding their physical and medical condition.

It is proven that lots of men feel threatened by female bosses. Countless studies show that men prefer male over female bosses. Subconsciously men are associated with careers and women with family,

Results show that both women and men react more negatively to criticism if it comes from a woman. The subjects reported that criticism by a woman led to a larger reduction in job satisfaction than criticism by a man. Employees were also doubly disinterested in working for the company in the future if a female boss had criticised them.

Surprising but true!

Females know that they have to face a more challenging road than males. Challenges are everywhere. Pushing oneself out of their comfort zone and trying something new and good is the challenge that one can impose on itself. More challenges one faces in life, the achievements and memories increase manifolds.
